Took the big 12 out to the range in the pouring rain today because I wanted to function test the birdshot with an adjustment made to the gas system. Also, it doesn't look like Gander will be getting in any #4 buck any time soon, and I bought some Federal to try out. Wanted to try shooting some slugs for accuracy, but that was low on the priorities.
Shot the bird at the 25 yard range because I was afraid it'd bounce off the tires covering the dirt on the pistol range. Shot the buck and slugs at the 15 yard pistol range.
First round of bird fails to eject, and I'm ticked. I jack it out of the chamber, slap the bolt closed, and fire off the next four rounds semi-auto. Ejection varies between weak and frantic. Ten rounds of bird was enough to make a believer out of me - this gun will eat ANYTHING.
Next up is 5 rounds of Federal #4 buck. Absolutely shred the **** out of the target holder. The target looks I spent 6 hours with a .22LR. At this point, I cannot imagine any worse day that to get hit with #4 buck. It blew part of the target holder 20 feet into the air for cryin' out loud.
So I load up 3 Brenneke KO slugs (all the KOs I'd brought) and try shooting them for accuracy. NOW, I can imagine something worse than getting hit with #4 buck. I blow three holes the size of quarters in the target, one big ragged hole. My brother steps up with some Winchester Super X slugs, and while his accuracy is a little worse, the holes are still impressively big.
I've got 150 rounds of slugs downstairs, and I'll go out to Gander tomorrow and buy a couple boxes of birdshot, drive over to FleetFarm, and pick up the rest of the buck I need to fill an ammo can.
Oh yeah and, I've got 2000 rounds of Wolf 9mm on the way. I'm gonna be a busy little beaver next Saturday night. Everybody else'll be out dancing, I'll be watching Enemy At The Gates and filling 30cal cans.
That do say more than a bit about me, don't it?
