Living For

I'm sick of living for someone else. It seems like what I want to do always takes a backseat to what is right, what is financially responsible, what is common sense, what is good, what I should do.

I wanted to buy a PTR-91...but instead I'll dump that money into stuff I should buy.
I wanted to take a year between school and college and just work...but I went to college.
I wanted to take this semester off and just work...but I'm going to school.
I wanted to ask a girl out...but I didn't, to preserve our friendship.
I want to ask another girl to go see The Kingdom...but I won't, because it'd be messy whether or not it worked.

I'm sick of always doing the right thing, the good thing, the common sense thing. I can't seem to behave like my brother, and do whatever I want, whenever I want, damn the torpedoes. But somehow, I just can't cut loose of doing the right thing, all the time. I'm sick of my own inability to let go.

I think this next line's from Lost:

"It's ok for some people, Jack. But not for you."

Grrr...It's 11:45 at night, and I'm depressed about all of this. And I know it, and it's influencing what I right. I'll feel differently in the morning. Actually I won't, I just won't admit it.

Gun Stuff

So on Saturday night I go to Gander Mtn. I'm looking to drop nearly a thousand dollars on a USP Compact.

The people in the gun department don't know how to use their computer system to find one for me. The guy says he'll take our information and call us when he has some time to work with the computer.

The next day, we decide to go back, but we decide to call first in case they dug up anything the night before. The man on the phone says they can't do any ordering (WTH?!). We go, and wind up talking to someone we've never met before. He says they CAN order stuff, and manages to find 5 USP Compact 9's, Variant 1 versions, for between $850-$950. He takes our information and says he'll call us if he finds any used versions.

An hour later, we get a call at home, he's order a new and a used. Not only do we have no obligation to buy, but he's waving the $25/gun shipping fee, because TPTB have decreed handguns may only be shipped overnight.

My USP should be here today or tomorrow.

Yay!

School Again

I'm here in school again. Sitting at yet another computer.

School's not SO bad. Business class is entertaining, because the teacher is about 80% Libertarian. You know it's going to be a fun class when she says "If you trust the government to take care of you, you end up eating stale bread on the Russian Plateau."

Economics is taught by a man who doesn't speak much English.

And Business Writing looks to be fairly easy, though it incorporates all the elements that made me hate Business Writing Intro so much. Peer review...urgh. Makes me wanna take a claw hammer to my computer.

So Here I Am...

Sitting in a another computer lab.

Waiting for class to start for the semester. One hour and eighteen minutes left.

I don't feel comfortable blogging my usual stuff in a public place. Don't know why, I'll probably get over it though.

I'd rather be working. There I get paid to put up with aggravation, and I occasionally have some fun. Here I pay to be aggravated, and there's never ANYTHING fun.

Yes, I'm in a foul mood about this.

Shooty Goodness

Well, my mom (who's been to the range approximately 2 times) said we'd go at least once this summer, before I go back to college. Given that I go back on Monday, and work a bit in between, yesterday was the last day to go.

We loaded up the Walther .22, the CZ452, CX4, and Beretta 92, and then me, she, and my brother all rode out to the range.

Woulda been a little nicer if the people one lane over hadn't been so interested in running more lead through their XD45 than went through the last 9 John Woo movies. Mom doesn't like loud bangs, especially from 5 feet away.

But, she blew the center out of the target at 25 yards with the CZ. Moved on up to the Walther, and did passable with that. Took 2 shots with the CX4, and hit a bullseye with one shot, but didn't like that. One shot with the 92, and it was time to go.

I didn't have the advantage of someone coaching me to shoot with various .22s. I went from nothing, not even airsoft to a .40S&W carry pistol, and from there to an Honest-To-God battlerifle. It didn't take me long to become accustomed to the use of a gun, but I guess it takes other people longer. Oh well. She did quite good.

I Am SO Going To See This...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMei5nctinc

Classic Michael Mann film here. Jamie Foxx, good acting, tight scripting, good camerawork, neat dialogue, great combat sequences, .308s, badguys getting their backsides handed to them...

Like a poster I saw once said: "Tell those boys with their laundry on their heads it's washday, and we're bringin' the Maytag."

What's Going On

Not a whole lot happening in Vincentdom. Lots of work. Lots of gearing up for school. Lots of running. Some shooting. The stock fell off my HDR again, I need to write ACE about fixing this. You spend +$200 on something, you expect it to work.

I finalized my financial objectives for 2008. I'm gonna have to get a start on them right after I get my USP later this month. It'll take me 1.5 years to complete 1 year's worth of financial objectives. Ah well, such is working on a deadline. Most of the stuff will probably be banned in early 2009.

Outrage

http://washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070804/NATION/108040062/1001

I'm not going to cut and paste because it's two pages. Paraphrased, the DemCong played fast and loose with the rules, and because they did so, they passed a bill allowing criminal aliens to collect government benefits.

WHY we're having a reasonable debate on this is beyond me.

WHY we're not trying everyone on the "criminal alien" side of this debate for capital treason charges is ALSO beyond me.
