As I may or may not have mentioned, about six months ago, I embarked on a quest to build the perfect home defense rifle. The idea was inspired by my Beretta CX4 carbine - build a small, perfectly 100% reliable, illiterate-peasant simple, two-handed weapon that would be easier to use and more powerful than a pistol, and would still be useful in defending the home OUTSIDE the home, if you know what I mean and I think that you do.
After all, a pistol is what you use to get BACK to your RIFLE.
Recently, after purchasing a rifle specifically to use in this build (Carolynn McCarthy), I found that it wouldn't work with the pieces I had already assembled. Nancy Pelosi was recruited to fill the recently vacated HDR shoes.
Over the course of several months, I purchased and socked away the parts I'd need to optimize what is already the greatest weapon ever invented. Last night the final piece was delivered, and I spent half an hour sitting on the living room floor assembling the whole thing. To the base receiver-barrel combination I added:
-An ACE folding stock
-A "rhino-skin" textured pistol grip
-A quad-rail system
-A vertical foregrip
-A 20rd magazine
Absolutely beautiful now that it's assembled. A weapon to make liberals weep at the sight of it. Nancy Pelosi has sold her soul to try to ban every feature on it, and the platform itself. Now I just need to take a hack-saw to the solder they used to lock the lug in place over the barrel threads, and then I'll have just about every "evil" feature imagineable.
I've already made sure it runs perfectly, and accurately. Now it sits in my closet, waiting for me to buy a safe already and stash the two pistols and the carbine under my bed SOMEWHERE ELSE.
RE:Overpenetration of rifle vs pistol rounds The Box O'Truth did a couple pages on this and found that any weapon possessed of the penetrating power necessary to down an assailant is going to overpenetrate in a house. I'd much rather have blazing-fast fragments of a 130grn bullet impacting the brick on the way out of our house than a slow, 230grn, half inch wide ball bouncing off or chewing its way through to God-Knows-Where.
I'm happy as a clam at high tide.
