Finished Lost last night (loved it by the way, maybe the best of the season), and watched the news after. Big mistake.
Seems the thin blue line hereabouts is starting a 4 month program to clean up my city's north end. Two man patrols in police vans, ticketing people for any and all violations. I will never forget the sight of the man being led away in cuffs for riding his bike on the wrong side of the street.
Last year they handed out 3000 tickets due to this little initiative. Figure a min. of $100 per, that's nearly half a mil right there. Seems someone figures there's a bit of money to be made harrassing people over victimless crimes. Another example of the power corrupts motto...

Best solution - every time one of these two man teams goes out, they get hit with Tazers, their gear gets stolen, and they wake up in their undies with the their van gutted. Everybody goes home in one pieces, gets the message across.
I'm steaming furious right now.
