Because the ever intelligent authorities are concerned about us shooting someone right now and not in 49 hours, the two day "cooling off" period for my Sig Sauer Paul Nelson Commemerative P220 .45 is counting down. As I type, we've got about 47.45 hours to go.
Anyway, I figured it'd be a good time to review some gun statistics, just in case anyone hostile to the 2nd article of the Bill Of Rights is in the house (so to speak).
~120,000,000 people in the United States believe having a gun in the house is better than having no gun in the house
~There are 300,000,000 privately owned guns in the United States
~The lowest number of defensive gun uses recorded is 800,000 per year
~The highest number is between 2,5000,000 and 4,000,000
~That means that on the low side, there's a 1 in 375 chance you'll defend yourself with a gun in the next year
~On the high side, that's a 1 in 75 chance
~There are 13,000,000 crimes committed every year
~There are 1,300,000 crimes committed every year with a gun
~That means there's a 1 in 23 chance you'll have a run in with crime in the next year
~That also means there's a 1 in 230 chance you'll have a run in with gun crime in the next year
~There are 1,500,000 violent crimes committed every year
~There's a 1 in 200 chance you'll be the victim of violent crime in the next year
~There are roughly 17,000 homicides each year.
~There are roughly 10,000 gun homicides each year
~That means you have a 1 in 17,500 chance of being murdered in the next year
~You have a 1 in 30,000 chance of being murdered with a gun in the next year
~66% of all homicide involves criminals killing criminals
~There are roughly 30 child firearms deaths each year
~The 1 child gun death per hour statistic comes from increasing the age of childhood to 24
~Most homicide is committed by males aged 16-24, and is related to the drug trade
And the most concerning of all statistics, and the main reason the Founders listed the human right to keep and own weapons of military significance in the Bill Of Rights:
~There were 120,000,000 civilians murdered by their own government in the 20th century.
